Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Understanding tested in this assignment:
·         the business environment which forms the context in which large enterprises and the internal entrepreneur or intrapreneur operate;

·         techniques and approaches to problem-solving and decision-making associated with start-up processes and the development of new enterprise within large organisations;

·         formulation, presentation and assessment of feasibility studies and business plans;

·         entrepreneurial marketing and promotion relevant to spin-outs;

·         managerial and political processes and the ways in which support and collaborative relationships can be identified, obtained and developed;

·         the importance of sustainable and environmentally friendly new product and service processes

 

Learning Outcomes: Skills and Attributes tested in this assignment:
·         critically evaluate current concepts, theories, methodologies and patterns in the field of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship;

·          identify and evaluate a range of options, dealing with complex issues both systematically and creatively;

·          appreciate some of the broad variations in patterns of behaviour, not just between different sizes of organisation but from sector to sector and between domestic and international markets. The significance of scale and critical mass will also be explored.

Detailed Brief for Individual/Group Assessment
Assignment Title:  (A) Group Business Plan and (B) Final reflective report.

 

Context:
Students are task to work in small project groups (of no more than 4 members) to produce a business plan and a live ‘community assistance project’.  Mostly this will involve also identifying a local charity or other such social organisation and creating some support. Though not every group will do so, an indicative fundraising target of £300 is suggested.

Description of the assignment:

Course assessment requirements for this module involve one team or project-based assignment accounting for 20% of the marks and one individual assignment accounting for 80% of the marks.   Please note that the pass is on aggregate – in other words, it is possible to fail in the first element but pass overall.

 

(A)  Group Business Plan (20%)

 

In your groups you will then have to plan and execute an ‘entrepreneurial project’. The nature of the project is your choice but your aim will be to devise something that can be related to core theory on this module. The requirement is that you will spend a minimum of 8 hours delivering the project. Further details about the types of projects you might consider will be discussed in class.

Attention should be paid within the plan document to:

o    an audit of your social media resources and aims and objectives for them

o    environmental or ‘green’ issues.

o    assessment of risk (see Risk Assessment under Units)

Prior to running the project, informal discussion (not assessed) of the team’s project plan will take place in-class. Taking into account the formative feedback from your discussion and/or presentations, you will then submit an amended (team) proposal in the form of a business plan. This is the first assessment.

(B)  Individual Reflective Report (80%)

The report is a reflective piece of work where you will primarily report on your experience in planning, organising and running your activity and what you learnt along the way. Your report should include consideration of your personal experiential learning which demonstrates understanding of entrepreneurial trait theory in relation to your individual characteristics.

You will also discuss key topics covered throughout the module and demonstrate your ability to apply academic models and theories to a real-life business process. Make links therefore with academic theory to support the points you make where appropriate. Theory can be found in lecture notes, recommended reading and academic journal articles.  Word limit – 3000 words (excluding appendices).

Harvard Referencing should be used throughout.

 

Your report needs to be well structured and presented professionally. It is recommended that you organise your report in a logical way.  Further details will be available on StudyNet and there is constant opportunity for questions and feedback in class.

A. Individual Essay
Your brief is as follows:

• Identify some activity by managers within an organisation, or an individual entrepreneur or owner manager that seems to you to illustrate intrapreneurial themes and/or enterprising patterns of behaviour

• Around this, select an issue relevant to the content of this module and that seems interesting to you for some personal reason which you should specify, making links to your own experience. (Please note that the core issue must not be a topic you have already addressed in your previous assignments during your studies). Explain and justify your choice.

• Next, from a literature search, identify two or three academic journal articles on the subject, and write a critical discussion on the issues raised by the authors of the articles. In particular, you should highlight ways in which the concepts, frameworks and/or theory set out in the journal articles either supports or departs from the behavioural issue you have identified.

• You should make specific in your analysis of the activity concerned how and why you chose the manager(s) and individual (s) concerned.

Word limit 3,000 words. Your work should conclude with a word count (available on most word processing packages) and should include in an appendix a reflective commentary on your learning (see below).

B. Reflective Piece
For 10% of the grade you are required to return as part of your submission document a short statement or commentary on personal learning (maximum one side of A4) in relation to your inquiry on this module. This should include a reflection on your experience of group work and, for example, your contribution online to the learning of others. Description without reflection and analysis is not enough.

Any specific instructions:

1. All students must provide in Part A sufficiently clear introductory and supporting material to provide their personal rationale for choice of organisation as well as evidence of their research process. In your rationale, make a link to academic definitions of Intrapreneurship, entrepreneurship or enterprise as appropriate. Strong statements must be supported by evidence, example or reference.
2. Students who do not provide a statement of personal learning will lose 10% of the module grade.
3. Check your work against the brief before submission. If in doubt, check with your tutors.
4. The submission deadline is 18th June 2021. Work submitted late, or plagiarised, will be subject to standard penalties.
