Introduction
In this assessment, you will consider the role played by social networking, microblogging, and online dating services in our lives. Some researchers, such as Joinson, McKenna, Postmes, & Reips (2009), have found that using technology to communicate also facilitates offline communication and even enhances our social and kinship connections. Others who compared users and nonusers of technology have found no significant differences between the two. Researchers have focused on how people protect their privacy (perceived and actual) in an online space, how trust levels impact disclosure in cyberspace, and even how one portrays his or her real (true) self-online.
